Project Description

The Metolong Dam and raw water pump station project is located in Lesotho Kingdom.
The dam and water treatment plant sites are located in Maseru District, adjacent to the villages of Ha Seeiso, Metolong and Ha Makotoko on the South Phuthiatsana River about 35 km from Maseru.

The project includes the construction of a 73metre-high roller compacted concrete(RCC) dam, crest length of 210m and impounding a 53 million m³ reservoir at the full supply level with multi stage raw water intake and pump station and raw water transmission main from the dam to a downstream water treatment facility.

The Consultancy Services are divided into two phases as shown below:

Phase I:

Phase I included the review of existing reports, confirmation of topographic survey results and required additional survey, confirmation of dam axis, selection of dam type, identification of further site investigation works (dam foundation integrity; potential quarry sites concrete aggregate source, river/blending sand), Conduct stability analysis, Identify required grouting works, design of the spillway and river diversion, design of the outlet works and raw water pump station with a capacity of 2.4 m3/sec. The design included the HVAC system for the station as well as I&C for both the dam and the station. The services include preparation of the preliminary design reports as well as final reports, preparation of tender documents, pre-qualification documents, construction program and cost estimates. In addition, the services include evaluation of contractors as well as evaluation of bidder’s offers.

Dam safety related documents as required by OP4.37 (Dam Safety) are prepared and the training plan of Client’s staff.

Phase II:

Will include evaluation of tenders and Supervision during Construction.
