Aqaba Port

Aqaba Development Corporation

Project Description

As part of the master plan of converting the coastal city of Aqaba into tourism destination, the land where the original port of Aqaba was situated was leased to an international developer to be turned into a large luxury tourism development. The port facilities were set to be transferred into a new location on the border with Saudi Arabia.
The Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) tendered the project in several packages under Engineer, Procure and Construct (EPC) contracts where there were several consortiums of Contractors and Consultants bidding for each package. The bidding process involved preparing submitting a techno-commercial bid including a preliminary design (pre-bid engineering). CCG partnered up with MID Contracting Co. one of the leading contractors in Jordan and together they submitted the winning bid for package 3 which was the largest package and included Infrastructure, Yards, Buildings & Sheds. MID/CCG bid received the highest technical and commercial score.
The project construction value was JOD 60,000,000 (USD 85,000,000), the total built up area was 65,000 m2 comprised of 59 facilities and the site area was approximately 900,000m2. The key challenge in the project was that stakeholders involved in the operation of the port had new requirement and we were required to obtain these requirements from 5 different stakeholders, compare them to the original Employer Requirements and report to the Employer on the deviations and obtain their approval while maintaining the project time schedule. This activity was not part of the original program agreed with Employer, however, we were able to overcome this obstacle and meet the time schedule. CCG was able to provide solutions that both enhance the facilities performance and cut down on capital and operation costs, saving the Employer and the Contractor considerable costs.
