Project Description

The 70km Erbil Ring Road is a sophisticated, 150m, 8-lane ring road around the city, designed as a freeway for high levels of safety and efficiency.

It was important to create a unique character for each of the 5 main interchanges while respecting the site’s original geomorphology. This was achieved by lining the key roads with avenues of trees, and using shrubbery, ponds, gravel, and pebbles.

The result enhances visual coherence, improves entrances to existing communities, and preserves views to important landmarks. The design also accounts for the projected expansion of the city and includes space for future utilities.
